Privacy Policy

Account info. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google. We use this to create and identify your account — we never see or store your Google password.

Content you add. Recipes, recipe/receipt/pantry/cellar photos, pantry items, wine cellar entries, meal plans, and any notes you write. This is stored to run the app — it's what the app is for.

Usage data. We use Google Analytics to understand overall traffic and feature usage (e.g. which pages are visited, roughly how often). This is aggregate usage data, not a record tied to your recipes or pantry.

To run the core app: store and display your recipes and pantry, and let you search, plan meals and build shopping lists.

To power AI features: recipe/receipt photos and text (ingredients, recipe titles, cuisine, etc.) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to read photos into structured recipes, estimate nutrition, suggest ingredient substitutions, and suggest wine pairings. A wine pairing suggestion may involve Claude searching the web for a real, purchasable bottle — no personal account information is included in that search, only details of the dish itself.

We don't use your content to serve ads, and we don't sell your data to anyone.

We use a small number of service providers to run the app, each only for the purpose below:

• Google — sign-in (OAuth) and site analytics (Google Analytics).
• Anthropic — processes photos and recipe text you submit to power the AI features described above. Anthropic's commercial API terms mean this data isn't used to train their models by default.
• Microsoft Azure — hosts the app and stores your data (Cosmos DB for recipes/pantry/etc., Blob Storage for photos).

These providers only process data on our behalf — none of them can use it for their own purposes beyond what's described here.

Every saved recipe has a private link (thekitchenstory.co/r/…) that works for anyone you send it to, whether or not you've made it public. A recipe only appears in Google search results if you explicitly turn on "Discoverable on Google" for that specific recipe in the app — this is off by default for every recipe.

A session cookie keeps you signed in. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to measure site usage. We don't use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and everything tied to it (recipes and their photos, pantry, receipts and their photos, wine cellar, meal plan) yourself at any time — sign in, then "Delete account" next to "Sign out". This can't be undone. If you'd rather we do it for you, email the address below instead.

The Kitchen Story isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
